The Beautiful Risk of Education by Gert Biesta

In September the Reading Network meeting was opened by Sharon Smith. Sharon is undertaking PhD research at the University of Birmingham. Her research approaches the subjectivity of parents of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and its impact on inclusion. She was awarded the BERA Doctoral Fellowship in 2019.

The questions she suggested to begin the discussion are below. We would love to hear your thoughts!

[1] Who can be a teacher?

Does it have to be someone who is recognised and identifies themselves as a teacher, or can it be someone like a disabled student in a school setting?

[2] Is Biesta correct that there are three distinct domains (Qualification, Socialisation, Subjectification) that the educator needs to be aware of and exercise judgement in? If he is right, can anybody be/who can be that kind of educator or teacher?
