Caring by Nel Noddings

In May we were delighted to have cofounder of the Reading Network Elizabeth O’Brien open the discussion on Caring: A Relational Approach to Ethics and Moral Education by Nel Noddings. The questions she posed to open the conversation are below. We look forward to hearing your thoughts!

  1. Do we Care/care (educationally)? Is education receptive, aware, attentive?

  2. Does modern education acknowledge the development of an ethical ideal?

  3. If we think of “the feminine” as “different” in Nodding’s context, what are the “different” ways of our age? Can we draw on Noddings’ approach in developing “an ethic” towards their inclusion, development, amplification? Is this a good idea at all?
